The Chiltern Learning Trust is consulting on changes to its admission arrangements for all of its schools for admissions from  2019 onwards.

    What we are proposing:

In essence, all the schools will have a standardised policy which after the highest priority of children who are looked after or were previously looked after (i.e. in care), children of staff will be considered under criterion two.

For Challney High School for Boys, Challney High School for Girls, Dallow Primary, Denbigh High School and Putteridge High School criterion three will prioritise those in catchment with siblings at the school, criterion four will then prioritise those in catchment (without siblings at the school), criterion five will prioritise those living outside the catchment area with siblings at the school before any other children are considered in the final criterion of straight line distance from their home address to the school applied for.

Marston Vale Middle School will follow the same criteria format as the schools above with the addition of giving priority to pupils who are currently attending the named feeder lower schools in the area ahead of any other children who fall into the final criteria of straight line distance to the school. It is proposed, however, to remove the current additional feeder school priority given to children attending Wilstead Lower School, as this school has converted to a Primary school and therefore children would normally remain for Years 5 and 6 before moving to a Secondary school instead of transferring at the end of Year 4 to begin a Middle school education.

Chiltern Academy, which is due to open in September 2018, will not have a catchment area from 2019 and instead operate a straight line distance policy after prioritising looked after and previously looked after children as criterion one, children of staff as criterion two and children with siblings at the school as criterion three.

It is proposed to remove the medical needs criterion from the admissions criteria for all of the schools in the Trust. Children with a statement of special educational needs (SEN) or an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan who have medical needs are provided for through their statement or plan and are allocated a place at a school ahead of the admissions process and many other medical needs or conditions would not usually require admission to a specific school as all schools can usually provide for children who require support or assistance.
